got space?

We have recently expanded our Stornext compatible fibre channel Apple XSAN to a capacity of 60TB, which will soon jump to 80TB of total online full res storage capacity. We are running the latest XSAN 3 on OSX Mountain Lion with shared access to all our Windows workstations ensuring all the advantages of a completely data-centric workflow.  Our Thunderbolt equipped Macs are also now able to take advantage of direct access to the SAN through the external ATTO Thunderlink providing Thunderbolt to Fibre Channel connectivity. To back up all that data reliably we employ Engineering Emmy award, and Hollywood Post Alliance Engineering Excellence award winning technology in the form of IBM’s LTFS (Linear Tape File System) on high capacity LTO-5 tapes.

davinci resolve suite

Categories: technology

We have put one of the last major pieces into our post puzzle by building a dedicated DaVinci Resolve color grading and finishing suite.  The room has been blacked out and fitted out with a full set of Tangent Devices Element grading panels and a massive 65” Panasonic Professional Series 3D Plasma monitor, calibrated with 3D LUTs through a Blackmagic Design HDLink Pro 3D. The monitor was sourced and imported from the U.S. as the model is not yet officially available in the UAE. In the past month we have completed the grade on a full length feature film and two commercials. We are also able to tap into the skills of international DaVinci colorists right here in Dubai through remote grading sessions.

muddville goes stereoscopic at atlantis

Categories: production, technology

The best thing about having as many Red Epics as we do, is the opportunity to use more than one at a time. At Muddville, more is never enough, and this certainly applies to our growing collection of accessories and multi-purpose camera rigs... some bought, some modified, most hatched from the brain of Jac, and custom built. Our latest multicam escapades involves one of our latest acquisitions… our new stereoscopic mirror rig recently brought in from the states. For four days at the beginning of May we descended upon Atlantis Hotel and Resort on the Palm with a full film crew, three trucks full of lighting and grips equipment, and our new 3D camera rig, complete with a matched pair of Optimo Rouge zoom lenses specially brought in from Italy. One of the biggest challenges of shooting stereoscopic in Dubai is the lack of local equipment and technical know how. Muddville intend to change that. Stereoscopic Post Shooting a stereoscopic production is only half the battle. We made sure our entire post pipeline was ready for the new workflow, at up 5K resolution all in RAW R3D no less. We also made to ensure we could monitor in full 1080p 3D from beginning to end. Muddville are now set up for editing, compositing, visual effects, and color grading in 3D.

hollaphonic music video

Categories: production, director

When we met up with the lads from Hollaphoinc we knew we were going to create something that had a real edge. When the duo launched their new single “ I don’t want it to end” it sky rocketed to number one on the i Tunes downloads Charts in the UAE region. The single has won them some great recognition and we wanted to create a video that matched the energy of the song... so what did we do ? Our think out of the box Director Jac came up with a concept never seen before, 3 Red Epics on one rig, need we say anymore. The new technique was nothing short of challenging with the guys having to carry it around in a night club packed with people. However after 2 nights of running, sweating and some interesting dancing by the crew themselves we produced a slick video. The Hollaphoinc crew had HTC onboard and used the video to coincide with the launch of the new HTC One and it was a great little Branded Entertainment exercise.. Thanks to all those who threw shapes on the dance floor and to Olly Wood and Greg Stainer from Hollaphonic

dubai fighting championship

A small team from Muddville took out two Epics and Carl Zeiss's SLF compact primes on a journey of training, tears, sweat and a fair bit of blood.  The idea was to capture the human side of the competitors and contradict it with burst of extreme energetic violence.  Fun was had by all, looking forward to the next one…

sweetbox

A sweet collaboration with our new "sister company" down in Sydney.  Mo Shono and Johan Polhem of Sweetbox challenged our particle and fluid team with something rather bizzare (this one of for those MTV fans).  The concept odd, the visuals awesome, the result something super flossy.  As part of the development to this project we filmed candy-floss falling at 300fps - it was bland, so we made our own versions and this is the result...  Check them out, like us first then them...  www.sweetbox.tv

tecom photography

The First Group commissioned Muddville to go out and shoot some spectacular images for their growing portfolio of the Tecom area.  Graham Tooby was up for the task with the Alpha/Phase one camera.  The primary concern was perfection in the image, clarity in the detail, perfectly aligned buildings capturing the exquisite architecture of the Dubai Skyline.  Attached are a few selects, you can explore further in the showreel section.
